Technically called “endodontics”, root canal treatment consists of the devitalization of the tooth which nerve is affected instead of resorting to its extraction. It is used in cases where the dental pulp is damaged by bacteria in deep tooth decays or fractured fillings, which cause pain or abscess.
Despite the pain caused by the condition, the procedure is operated with painless techniques and the patient is comfortable during the intervention and the tooth can be preserved for a lifetime with adequate care.
The root canal treatment consists of the disinfection of the tooth and the removal of blood vessels and nerves from the affected dental pulp. A ceramic crown is recommended in some cases where the risk of tooth fracture is high.
